Dr. Murthy is an accomplished scientist who has performed research at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in the field of Lipid and Cardiovascular Biology. She's also the proud recipient of the 2014 "Horace Lucich Award" for Outstanding Teacher. Dr. Murthy's also an outstanding student herself, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Master of Science degree in Microbiology from Bhopal University, India. She continued on to receive Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Biology from New York University.
Dr. Murthy joined BASIS Independent Silicon Valley after over a decade of teaching science and mathematics from junior high school to the university level. Most recently, she taught biology, chemistry, and physics at another Bay Area private school. "I have also mentored /sponsored students for various competitions such as the Science Bowl, Synopsys Science Fair, and the California State Science Fair," said Dr. Murthy.

Outside the lab and classroom, Dr. Murthy likes to paint, hike, and read books. She was trained for 12 years in the classical Indian Dance style of Bharatnatyam and enjoys dance performances.
