Ms. Thiagarajan

Computer Science Teacher

Ms. Visa Thiagarajan received her Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering from Madurai-Kamaraj University, India, (gold medalist) and earned her Master of Science in Computer Science from University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her teaching credential is from CalStateTeach. She re-invented herself as a teacher a few years ago, but prior to that she was a successful software engineer and manager in the software industry for almost twenty years.

As a Computer Science Subject Expert Teacher, her goal is to encourage students at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley to be engaged and curious producers of technology rather than consumers. She achieves this by empowering students with tools and projects to help them discover the endless creativity and self-expression that exists in Computer Science. She teaches AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A and two post-AP Computer Science classes (Automata Theory and Data Structures/Analysis). She also mentors the Competitive Computer Science and Girls Who Code clubs. Ms. Thiagarajan wrote her first program when she was in the 8th grade and she loved it! She would like to "pass on the love and excitement of Computer Science to the students here and encourage them to think about computing as a career choice."

Ms. Thiagarajan likes to be called a “citizen of the world” because she enjoys cooking dishes from various parts of the world and loves to listen to all kinds of classical music. She’s also a voracious reader and delights in puzzles and puns. She keeps fit by running and aims to run the 10K Turkey Trot this year.
