Week 11

May 05, 2019

This was an especially stressful week for me considering final decisions for where we’re headed for college were due. Given that pressure, I wasn’t able to focus on my work as well as I would’ve hoped. I overestimated my ability to work with the anxiety of the next four years of my life depending on the press of a “statement of intent to register” button. In general, I’m behind schedule relative to what I had previously predicted for myself in the syllabus, but hopefully I can spend the next week or two compiling what I do have into a presentation that accurately represents what I gained from this experience.

There is a great deal of technical depth to the process of database modeling and manipulation, and I was able to use the information I learned in my capstone database foundations class to a basic extent in order to simplify my efforts. The limiting factor was the “scalability” of the newly revamped firebase Cloud Firestore model, which, although hypothetically easier to denormalize, was not as compatible for my simple project. Therefore, I have decided to switch to the Realtime database (SQL) model, which has been easier to work with.
