Week Three – Tragedy Strikes

Mar 03, 2019

I experienced a significant family emergency on Monday evening, and as a result, I was not able to work on my Senior Project as much as I would have liked to. Due to the emergency, I had to set aside my research and my trip to Oakland. On Thursday, I traveled to Anaheim for a DECA competition – an event I would focus on until Sunday. Even with these events, though, I was still able to get some research done. More specifically, I reached out to various institutions in the Oakland area to learn more about the construction of streetlights in certain neighborhoods in accordance with the Broken Windows Theory, as well as Broken Windows policies in general. In addition, I got in touch with a connection at the Fremont police department to learn more about such policies in the Fremont area (which is just miles south of Oakland).

Due to the aforementioned family emergency, I will be staying with a few different family members and friends over the next week. However, I will continue to speak with experts in the field about Broken Windows policies and try to make a trip out to Oakland as soon as I can.
