Ms. McLean received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a Minor in Dance from Connecticut College and her Master of Arts degree in Adolescent English Education from New York's Hunter College. Before coming to BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, she was a research associate at the City University of New York's Center of Advances Study in Education. She teaches 8th and 9th grade English literature and journalism.
Ms. McLean's goal as a BASIS Independent educator is to help instill a love of reading, writing, and learning in her students. Even if English is not their favorite subject, she wants to help her students to develop an appreciation for the beauty of language- and a keen understanding of how it can help their future communications- and to enjoy learning for learning's sake. She loved being part of a supportive community that is caring for and educating the whole student within a culture of excellence.
When Ms. McLean is not teaching she enjoys cooking and eating good food, exploring (either traveling someplace new or finding new appreciation in the area around her), and being outside with her dog. She also likes to do crafty, creative things such as nail art, sewing, and home decor D.I.Y.
